The zone of validity corresponds to Zone 100 of the Viennese fare system, which includes practically the entire urban area of tourist interest. Activation for physical cards requires validation at a Wiener Linien validator before the first journey. Without the validation stamp, the physical card is not valid for controls. Digital cards (print-at-home or app) do not require additional validation, as they are already activated with the date and time selected during purchase.
Validity begins at the precise moment of activation: a 24-hour card activated at 4 p.m. remains valid until 4 p.m. the following day. This time system allows you to make full use of the chosen duration regardless of the time of start.
The standard Vienna City Card does not include transfers to and from Vienna Airport, which is located outside the central area covered by the card. A separate ticket or the purchase of an airport-specific add-on is required to use services such as the CAT (City Airport Train) or the Vienna Airport Lines.
Hop-on hop-off tours are not included in the basic version but can be added as an extra charge. These sightseeing bus tours require a separate supplement and are not part of the standard public transport covered by the card.
The card does not offer free admission to attractions but only discounts on entrance fees. Unlike the Vienna Pass, which includes free admission, the Vienna City Card is based on a system of reductions that varies from attraction to attraction.
It is not possible to combine Vienna City Card benefits with other discounts such as student cards, disabled cards, or other special reductions. Each benefit can only be used once during the validity period of the discounts.

The Vienna Pass is a more expensive but potentially more advantageous alternative for those planning to visit Vienna’s main attractions intensively. This tourist card offers free entry to more than 90 attractions and museums in the city, valid for 1, 2, 3 or 6 consecutive days.
Unlike the Vienna City Card, the Vienna Pass includes full free admission to major attractions such as Schönbrunn Palace, Belvedere Palace, the Albertina, the Kunsthistorisches Museum and Schönbrunn Zoo. There are no discounts but direct access at no extra cost.
The pass also includes unlimited use of Vienna Sightseeing Tours hop-on hop-off buses for the duration of its validity, allowing you to travel comfortably between the main attractions with a dedicated sightseeing service.
